Redwater No. 1   Mysterious seismic data led to the drilling of a wild cat well one kilometre east of Redwater. Imperial Oil’s discovery was made August 30, 1948.

The discovery well, Redwater No.1 led to about 1000 wells and over 900 million barrels produced. This led to the first pipeline export of oil from Alberta.
