Historical Petroleum Discovery
Three 8" x 10" black & white photographs in a black 18" x 34" frame and engraved plate comes with an illustrated and informative history pamphlet. In 1968 the site was designated "the first oil well in Western Canada" by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. The discovery was at Cameron Creek in what is now the Waterton Lakes National Park. The Rocky Mountain Development Company used a three-pole rig to drill 309 metres and found oil on September 21, 1902.
